Community of Practice

So many of us have an ever-deepening, unignorable and growing appreciation for what we face with climate change and the interconnected, messy, unfolding complex systemic troubles.

More of the same is not working.

Full of restless energy we feel the confusion and loneliness of working in parallel worlds to outwardly non-plussed colleagues, speaking apparently foreign languages.

Both exhausted and compelled to act. Even when it leads to organisational barriers every–single-step of the way.

We consistently find our lives are much lighter and freer, as a result of facing into our inner and the world’s outer troubles. We can then creatively work well with seemingly conflicting visions and competing priorities, building regenerative action.

This is at the heart of Leading Through Storms.

We invite leaders to courageously explore their restless, uncomfortable energies, using them to fuel experiments - the spirited acts so needed today.

Together: We know it is vital to have fellow travellers to learn alongside and from. We privilege and form invaluable supportive community. This is not work that can be done solely alone.

We build collective resilience, learning to recognise our unintended, unhelpful contributions compassionately, fostering action on, not shrinking away from, the dilemmas we face.

What can I expect?

Drawing on our framework, we learn our way into the future, powered by our Restless Energies we walk the Four Pathways to Spirited Leadership.

We create conditions that so quickly lead to deep connections – with participants’ own ‘inner community’ of leadership, and with your cohort.

You will

  • Experience creative inputs catalysing your emergent and map-less leadership explorations.

  • Reflect, inquire and act in a mix of solo, small and full group settings.

  • Be supported to recognise and learn to integrate, through practise, the thinking, emotional, physical, meaning-making and relational dimensions of your leadership.

  • Develop in your own unique way, and within your cohort; forming enduring relationships that serve change in your organisation and beyond.

  • Relinquish suppressed hard-to-face feelings, freeing energy better used to serve your leadership.

  • Design and reflect on practical real-time work experiments for your organisational context, regenerating your leadership to address the dilemmas you face.

What format will the programme take?

This online programme comprises four 3-hour sessions over three months and three optional 1-hour betwixt sessions. You will be in a cohort of up to 15 participants. The betwixts help us deepen relationships, support one another and get feedback on leadership experiments. We’ll meet on Zoom.

Who will facilitate?

These communities of practice are co-led by James Barlow, Jake Farr and Kirstin Irving . We have extensive experience of operational and strategic leadership in corporations, consulting within and to many varied organisations, coaching and psychotherapy practice.  We understand from lived-experience how liberating and creative it is to pay attention to our inner worlds and experiment with the insights gained to develop our leadership. We show up fully, bringing our own experiences, warts’n’all.
